I got a celeron in one of my computers and using a program called SeedFan
I saw that it is idling at 65C...I know thats high but exactly how high? and how much can it harm the CPU?

the damage is made if the temperature is 75 and higher, it isn't really good for any of hardware to be that hot.

thats very high for a celeron. if you built it yourself maybe the thermal paste was not applied correctly. what it is most likely is a virus/spyware/malware that is running something in the back ground and using up your cpu resources. look at the computer security section and do whats listed.

65C idle?!?!? how high does it get when its fully loaded? I dont think you should put yoru computer through any stress, any higher you'll get random shutdowns.

65 is hot, but you have to rember that intel does run hotter then amd most of the time.
yeah but 65 is near critical temp

I wouldn't say that was most likely, i would put that at the bottom of a very long list of potential causes.

So is my PC good for now until i get a good HSF?
I wouldn't say so

Have you tried removing your hsf and reapplying new thermal paste, then resitting the hsf, use artic silver 5 thermal paste, or something of similar quality

Thats high for a Celeron, My celerin is a 2.8Ghz OCed to 3.6GHz and it doesn't run that high even. Might is a Celeron D too though...

I really don't know if its my celeron or my motherboard...because this one guy says its my CPU because i got screwed up sensors, and another says its my mobo...but my temp at 65C never gets changed under heavy gameplay, and the temp at 38C can go up to 50C...so im thinkin its something else besides my CPU

my 2.4Ghz Celeron D ran around 140-145F Idle (think thats around 60-65C?). Of course there was no thermal pad.
