hi,

how can i make my Seagate Barracuda hard drive more quiet?

when its heavily moving files or something its realy loud, its always been like it since i got the pc 4+ years ago but its annoying now.

my uncle has a Western digital 80Gb IDE drive and his is virtualy silent you cant hear it.

i looked in my case to see if there was anywhere else i could put it but theres no room

btw,Hp stood it up on the front of my case :D

I've got a couple of barracuda's, I can't hear them at all. You can't make your drives quieter although you could try getting a different case to keep most of the sound from getting out.

Cromewell, you know how with alienware and stuff you can get acoustic dampening pads and stuff, is there something you could use instead that didnt cost heaps? and that would be effective?

You could try putting some rubber around where it's screwed in, just wedge it in there. That will quiet it down some because the vibrations will be dampened by the rubber. The noise may be the case more than the actual drive, because the drive may be just vibrating the metal case causing sound.

You could, I didn't think of that. As MatrixEVO said, you can just stick some rubber in there, you don't necessarily need special dampening pads.

you could probably get this Sytrin Kuformula SHF1 to help a little bit. it has rubber mounts that the HD sits on and is almost fully enclosed to cover up some of the sound. it also cools down the HD and looks nice... although i'm not sure if you're willing to spend that much

wow that looks realy nice, however i have a crappy Hp case so that wouldnt fit in i dont think :D

i might just get a new case as thsi Hp one has a bust swich :)

no i would just say get a new hard drive. the newer ones make less sound because of better technology. just like older processors/motherboards have a huge amount of static and sounds, the new ones are virtually silent.
