Challenging problem

Ok guys... This has me and my geek friends stumped. My computer will not turn on anymore...

Background: Had my el-cheepo power supply burn out, and in the process, somehow it managed to burn out my old mobo (MSI, K7N2 Delta 2). So, I took the chance to upgrade my mobo (still socket A as I cannot afford 939 yet), powersupply, DVD burner, keyboard and new OS drive, all from newegg.

The keyboard, DVD drive and new drive (74 gig Raptor) all work fine and dandy (tested on another computer).

Now, my new mobo, MST K7N2 Delta 2 Platnum (sp) was a refurb, my new powersupply, Seasonic S-12 600 RT.

Pre exsisting hardware: 1 gig Geil 3200, AMD XP 3200+ Barton Core, Thermaltake Volcano 12 heatsink/fan combo, ATI x800 pro video card, 3 HDD's (all working fine and dandy), Sound Blaster Audigy2, Linksys PCI wireless G, and a few other fans and lights that dont really matter to the story.

So, after I put my "new" computer together, I turned it on, adjusted the CMOS to my prefrence, nothing OC'd or such, just a few prefrences. After that, I made the stupid decision to boot into my old Windows XP copy. Well, started updating drivers, and decided to reset at a prompt. Went back into the CMOS, adjusted a few more setting, and went back into XP. Heh, at this point, I restarted again to adjust the CMOS clock (that I had forgotten), and while changing the time, the computer turned off, to never turn on again.

I thought I had done something to the mobo (some kind of driver issue between old drivers in XP, and different mobo). So, I RMA'd my mobo, just got the new one yesterday.

Today, I put the bare bones system back together, and there is still no responce at all from the computer. Power supply switch back and forth, hitting all the buttons and cursing at the stupid machine.

I am at a loss, either my new Seasonic is dead, or my switch on my case is dead... I have no idea.

Anyone here know anything about this kind of problem? The power is on, so thats not the issue, everything is connected, I have checked it about a million times.

*sigh*

any help is appreciated

Well try the PSU on a new machine to rule that out as a possibility. Does anything light up or spin?

Sounds like the PSU is toasted .. you can try shorting the PSU with some leads (while the main switch at the back is off), then connecting everything and powering the PSU on (with a load of some sort at least, say a fan) ... if the PSU or fan kicks up then you can assume (for now) the PSU works ... if not the you've found your culprit

Thanks for the info Praetor, I pluged the psu into my friends working comp, and nothing happened, just like mine. Ill send the psu into Newegg for RMA now.

Ill also lurke around here a little...
