Change amount of dedicated memory

I have an acer aspire 5742, intel i5 2.67 Ghz, 320HDD, 4Gb RAM, intel HD graphics, it is only dedicating 128mb towards the video memory but, when i do a system check it says it is allowing 1.2Gb for vid memory, so it says most games pass and will run very well, but when i go into BUS and try to change it to 256mb or more it does not allow me, as if it is locked? is there anyway around this, or a program to overide what is locking it? annoying as computer has the performance to do it, but cannot unleash it for some reason? any ideas?

regards

The intel HD graphics aren't very good, letting it use more of your ram is just going to take away from that and not add any real performance.

Your chipset limitation is most likely only 256mb. And since you have a prebuilt machine, your BIOS is going to have a lot of options locked.

And increasing the Vram will not make the intel HD graphics better, anyways. Just giving a video card more Vram won't make it a $300 video card.

No onboard graphics are good enough to play games. I've even owned the A8-3850 AMD cpu overclocked to max which is THE best onboard there is (crushes all intel onboard even at stock) and it was not enough to play Black ops smoothly even at 1440x900 resolution. I got about 35 FPS average, which on black ops is still pretty laggy. Also, black ops isn't even an extremely GPU intensive game either.

i'm not looking to increase the memory or anything because it has enough already, it just wont let me change it from 128mb to 256mb as most games eg empire total war only need 256mb but it wont run because my system is only using 128, im not too fussed about how amazing the graphics are, just want to play the game...?

Yeah but it's also very CPU intensive compared to other COD titles.

If it won't let you change it, you'll need to buy a discrete card, which begs the questions of what your full system specs are (including motherboard and PSU)
