Don't have a clue...... I was just on my computer one day (months ago) and it crashed, so i turned it off then off then it crashed at that place i said before, and now every time i turn it on it crashes there so i have to run in safe mode w networking each time.
You got any idea what might be causing this, i can post my hijack this scan if you want?

Prior to the persistent crashes did you recently install any new software and/or drivers? If you have an XP installation cd onhand that can be a help in repairing Windows when startup problems prevent normal operation. When starting the system you can press the "F8" key to choose safe mode with command prompt only to run chkdsk. When booting from the XP installation cd to the "R" repair option you can type "sfc /scannow" at the recovery console prompt to repair any damaged or missing system files. The system file checker will then copy any needed files directly to the hard drive to repair/replace any found missing or damaged.
Safe Mode was included along with Windows in order to load an essentially stripped down or bare operating system in order to be able to repair or remove things preventing a normal startup of Windows itself. Sound, video card, and all other drivers and softwares are temporarily "out of order" in this mode. That prevents any problem sources from being loaded as well.
Since you don't have an installation disk you will need to decide on which programs you will first remove to get Windows working again. But not knowing which one or what the problem leads to advising buying a full install cd to start fresh. Yes that means redownloading things. Make backups of what you can first before proceeding if you can't locate the actual problem. How old is the system? Sometimes an early indication of a hardware problem stalls a normal bootup of Windows too.

ranzy's description of crashing at bootup at one place on a system that has been in use for a few years like the one here could point at the battery on the board itself. The point where you are seeing system locks or restarts is the same point where a failing caused issues over the last weekend suddenly when even the effort to wipe, reformat, and reinstall Windows on the drive was hampered due to the battery. At that point the Windows installer "found no drive"? when a second with a working copy of Windows was also unseen by the installer. Yet no hardware problems. You can usually find a 2pack of energizer CR2032 lithium batteries for a $3- price that can save the day if everthing fails to see any results.
