Change of life and become a web designer

Hi All,

I'm not brilliant when it comes to computers but I've recently started to think that working as a web designer would be a great job.

I currently work in finance and am stuck in the same place everyday with very long hours and the possible freedem of working for myself interests me greatly.

My questions are, if I started courses in web design and put good amounts of time in learning this, would it be likely to give a good return as a new business ?

I would assume the amount of time and effort (inc selling yourself to clients), depends on your return but could I expect a good standard of living from it ?

I don't mind hard work, but like to see good returns on my effort.

Any feedback you could give me would be great.....your personal experiences, views etc

Hi , yes u can be a web designer ..and you have ample knowledge of computers so to work as web designer it will be easy and just great .. just you have to 'have a good idea of designs and colour combination .. that's the key and yeh .. design sense is important ...its a good career i believe ..i know a site where designers can buy and sell their designs.Its called www.contentmixi.com .
 
Yes, you can make good money from it, but it is a very big market with a lot of competition out there, so If you do decide to go into web design, make something unique about you and your company.
 
From personal experience, it takes time. I have been doing website for just over a year now, and i still haven't got many good designing skills, maybe it just because i am not good at art. I can use the software, but my designs are really poor.

In addition to that, there is a lot of competition out there. Also, your looking at just designing. Most of the time, people want a website design, and it coded as well - so they do not have to find a coder. If you were to be successful with designing, you could find someone else to code the designs.

If you did Website Designing and Coding, then you have the possibility to do well.

I believe that you can make good money from it if you learn it by heart!Maybe a bit bitter,but the return will give you a big surprise!

i was thinking of taking a course in web design as well. I am pretty good at building websites on my own, learned from just playing around, nobody taught me... however I am not an artist. I don't really draw designs or logos, I can be creative with what I have to work with however... layout etc....

do you really need to be an expert artist or at drawing for this field?
