Change Read Only

I'm having trouble getting rid of the read only permission which applies to ALL my documents, even new ones prepared. I've done the Right click/Properties/delete read only/OK procedure but it keeps telling me that to do that I need administrator permissions!!
How do I get them?

Thanks for your response John. I'm afraid I'm a little "green" about computers and their jargon. I'm a single laptop user using it for personal reasons only. I'm not linked to any other computers although this problem has arisen because I tried to allow a cousin in Canada to access one of my files through Dropbox. Does this give you the info you require?

Drop box access has nothing to do with this. What types of documents are these? What program was used to create them? Where are these documents located?

You say Dropbox has nothing to do with this but it's only since I changed settings within Dropbox that these problems have arisen.
I've tried making changes to an existing word doc and also to create a new doc but each time it's been rejected. These are within MS Office 2003.
I've also just tried to amend an Excel spreadsheet but it tells me the disc is full!? Checking My Computer I see that my C drive IS full but shouldn't it automatically switch over to the D drive?
Thanks, John.

No, it won't automatically switch over to the D drive. You can set it so all your user files can be stored on drive D. What operating system are you using? Dropbox has nothing to do with file attributes. What settings did you change?

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium. As far as I know I only changed setting to Read Only but in my state of ignorance I presume I made other changes? How do I switch everything to D drive, John? At present I can't even view a picture because the drive is full! And these Administrator Permissions keep cropping up too.

Go into your user folder and right click on each of the following folders and click on properties. Then click on the location tab and change storage location to d drive. It will automatically move items from c drive to d drive. Just follow the prompts.

Music
Videos
Documents

From here on out when you save stuff to your user folder it will go on d drive. As far as I know drop box is Web based not pc based. Yeah you have a folder on pc labeled Dropbox so that it can sync with the online storage. But all the settings are on the Dropbox server itself. So not sure how your file attributes have been screwed up.

Hi John. I'm slowly losing the will to live here! Trying to change the drive from C to D is - surprise, surprise - proving impossible. Attempts to overtype the C with D meets with a dead screen - changes not happening. Could it be back to the Administrator Permissions again? I need to get these changed I think.

Try doing a system restore back to a day before you supposedly changed settings and see if everything works correctly. Without knowing exactly what you did I really can't offer help. When you try changing the location what exactly happens. Are you clicking on apply and then OK? Remember if there are any files inside that folder then the system will have to move them to the other drive before you can move on.

Restore is another gremlin in the works!! I've tried this in the past and again recently but the only dates that come up are from 4 years ago! I've even gone into F2 settings on re-boot and changed them to original default settings but nothing seems to happen.
I'm obviously going to have to get an expert round to sort it out on site.
Thanks very much for your efforts anyway.
Cheers John.
