change resolution when program is launched?

I know how to manually go into control panel and change my monitor resolution but i was curious if there was a way i could make a program do this for me it launches. So if im launched X program, it would change the resolution then start the program. Is that possible?

If you google "setres" this program allows command line or shortcuts, not sure if it may help though.
