Changing hard drives and installing new OS

Sorry for what might come across as a very obvious question, but I'm planning on getting a new HDD for my PC, and have my old Vista DVD with the key, that I am planning on installing on the new HDD. Is the license key valid? Do I have to unregister the old PC in any way, or uninstall it?

If you have the full version of vista not the system builder version then yes, you can put it on the new computer but you must uninstall it from the older system. If you have the system builder version then legally you can't do it, as its tied to the original motherboard that it was installed on.
 
If all your doing is using a different hard drive then you'll be fine. As long as its the same motherboard and individual parts that you put on then your fine.

You say your getting a new harddrive, then you said should you uninstall it from the (old) PC. Are you just replacing the drive or building a new computer? If just a new drive you will have no problem if this is the first time you have tried to reactivate it. If it doesnt just call the number, tell them your drive died. They will give you a activation number, not a new Pin number. type it in, there you go. Blah Blah Blah.
 
Ah thanks for the help, it is just a new drive for the PC as it was getting too slow and too many blue screens etc.

Cheers, I will be changing it on Friday so no doubt I'll be back with a post of all the things I've done wrong!
