Changing memory speeds

Ok, I am trying to upgrade my memory to X2 1GB. My manual says the fastest speed my computer can handle is 2100, which sucks! I ran a crucial system scan and that stated that I could actually use "2700, 3200 and 4000 despite the manual stating 2100 as its top speed" so I took this a gospel and went and bought 2X 1GB PC3200. They won't work as a pair. I can only get one to work when I run it along side the original PC2100 as it slows the 3200 to 2100. Does anybody know if there is any way of getting my mobo to recognise my new 3200 sticks, or am I stuck running PC2100?

Thanks.

try an take out the PC2100 chip an just run the 2 new ones an then do a reply saying if it worked

Thanks, this was the first thing I tried and the screen stayed blank. I tried both chips individually with the original 2100 chip and both worked so I know they're not faulty, but they wont work together?

if the screen stayed blank it could not reconise ram in the first ram plug did u remember to move the ram across to slot 1 an 2

I tried every possible combo to get it working. It just wont recognise any chip above 2100 without having the original 2100 chip with it.

Is there any way of configuring the mobo to recognise a higher speed such as messing with the jumper settings?

thanks.

not that i know of
mabey when u did that scan on your computer an it said u could use up to 4000 it ment that is what your cpu could support or something
an mabey the reason it can use the 2100 an 1 3200 is because u have the 2100 an 1 3200 in duel chanel so it just slowed the 3200 down or somethink
thats all i can think of sorry i could not be more help an good luck

Yeah, that's what I figured. It's just confused me as the crucial scan confirmed that my manual states 2100 as the fastest speed but says I can run x2 1GB PC4000 chips regardless. My only conclusion is that the scan results are wrong or they know something about my motherboard that I don't. It remains a mystery. Thanks anyway.

If anyone can confirm that there is no posible way for me to get my mobo to recognise the faster speed that would be most appreciated. At least then I would feel less guilty about throwing a large brick at it and buying a new one. Thanks.

Your motherboard should work with the faster speed RAM, but as you noticed it will downclock it to the maximum that your motherboard will support, which is PC2100.

So there is now way of getting to run with 2x 3200 chips? Thanks for your help.
