Changing settings in cmos

I have another stupid question.
If I go in cmos and change the cpu speed from 1000 to 1333 and the dram from 100 to 133 what will happen long term to my system. Also please explain what I just did. Thanks. I also went from 512 ram to 1 gig on this m810 m/bd.Where will I notice the most change in performance? I noticed it isn't showing the full 1024 meg but only .98 gig in system properties

First of all the cmos is non-voilitile ram that contains the programming information for the bios version. You changed the cpu speed by increasing the multiplier and increased the front side bus to see memory timings increased there. The system board automatically reserves some 196mb or more for onboard functions like ide/sata controllers and other processes. You may see speed increases in the reduced time it takes to load Windows as well as in some applications or in games. It varies from system to system.

You just overclocked your computer. You may experience instability, increase in temperature of CPU, ram chipset etc, and the computer's life may be shortened (or it can fry if you OC it too much).

With stock cooling you definitely won't want to run the system at higher then stock settings. If you suddenly see a system lock and inability to boot up the need to clear the cmos then becomes necessary to restore the factory settings. Even with the Zalman cpu cooler with a 92mm fan inside the large finned copper heat sink cpu temps climbed easily into the 50Cs.
