changing "start"

It's quite possible for XP Pro with a few changes in settings and a reigistry mod. The instructions are seen at http://www.theeldergeek.com/change_text_on_xp_start_button.htm But if you make an "ut oh! " in the system registry you are on your own there! oops! ggrrrr... &#^@+!#@#@! I can hear it now! :P

There is a freeware that can help with this called Resource Hacker by name. The home page is seen at http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/ Another guide for using that is found at http://www.wintipz.com/XP/ChangeXPStartButtonText.htm You may want to follow the advice there to create a system restore point before any attempt is made however or...?  aww crap!

some windows XP theme have different start button. Why not searh for theme that suitable for you and your start buttons.

That would be would an appearance not text change there. The guides show how to actually change the "start" to another word or number? That's what OObi is asking about here.

Yes, I do really want to that bad. I'm persistent. Anyway, I tried the eldergeek.com way, both with classical and xp styled display, and couldn't log in after the changes.

Is there a different way to do it than the way they explain on eldergeek.com? Or did eg.com leave something out?

The guide seen at the other site gave the link for the freeware mentioned earlier. But whenever you start playing around with the system registry you will be on your own there if you fail to follow the instructions provided. You also have to have "administrative access" on your own system when toying around. Can you repair or reinstall Windows if you goof something up?
