cheap but good?

any suggestions for my brother who is in college for around a $300 or $350 pc? he will do school work on it so just a low end graphics card and like the dell u see in the paper all the time for $300 but he wants it to be that cheap but better? any suggestions -thx

Good luck finding a new laptop for that price range. The cheapest I could find was at least $599.00. But theres always ebay or pricewatch.

If you're looking for something pre-built, check out the Dell refurbished store, and just look for the cheapest stuff they have in stock. If he needs a monitor (because these don't come with any), then you should be able to find a 17" flat CRT for about $60-$70 on sale somewhere. Probably should easily fit within that budget, again if he doesn't want to do ANY gaming, or anything else that very intensive either, for that matter.

I'm sure a nice little Sempron machine would work too.

i would have recommended a sempron if he was doing some low end gaming, but for his purposes, not doing gaming, a celeron is better (i can't beleive i am saying a a celeron is better!)
