Cheap Computer

Is it possible to biuld a fairly simple $500 computer? If so, any suggestions or recommendations on parts? Im 15 and on a budget. Plus this is gonna be my first computer I biuld, so i kinda am going to need alot of help. Thanks.

P.S. Its gonna be used for school (I need Microsoft word), and fast internet surfing (My life revolves around looking at RC Cars, paintball, and computers on the internet). So basically nothing special. I might also do a little photo editing and video editing also.

The video editing question is a good one. I dont really know. Something not to complicated. Although, I do need a good amount of space to store all my videos.

Any suggestions on Video Editting software, and on anything to get a good $500 computer would be great.

EDIT: DO you think my dual drives (DVD-ROM and CD Burner) from my Dell would be good enough for this computer? I heard Dell makes junk, but since Toshiba makes that drives I have, will they work? I also have a monitor and mouse/ keyboard so I dont need them.

Your drives should work fine..but as for the vid editing software, it makes a big difference. If you just plan on using a program like Windows Movie Maker, than it doesn't require too many resources. However, a program like Adobe Premiere Pro will require alot more.

Ill be using something better than Movie Maker, but still a pretty basic program.

Can someone please link me some good parts that you recommend me using? My main goal is to stay under $500, so just give me the best I can get, and I probably will determine the video editing software around that. Since Video Editting isnt the main purpose for my computer. Ill only use it every once in a while. All I really need it a decent amount of hard drive space, and a pretty quick computer, for basic stuff.

My thoughts.

This comes to $505.07 with shipping (to me @ 23452 zip).

I did not include DVD drives due to you having them already.

I did not include any video software as I'm not familiar with it. But I'd probly have to cut down on the hard drive size to add anything with the current budget.

Uh I added that up to $482 without shipping. The only difference between your and my suggestions being the Hard Drive...which is $5 MORE than the seagate and your video card is $1 more....?????

How did you get $408?

The western digital hard drive has 16MB cache, seagate has only 8MB

The video card that I posted has faster memory than yours

How did you get $408?

yea you are right, I added them incorrectly, but anyway my build is still better than yours

But how did it add up to $408? I don't disagree with those upgrades for $6 either they're good suggestions!

If I buy this stuff, do I need anything else to make it run (Except the things I have of course). Such as fans, cords, heatsinks, etc?

And can someone suggest a different case. I like the one you picked, but I would prefer the USB ports to be on the front not the side. Im putting it in a computer desk, where there wont be much room to plug USB's into the side.

Go to www.newegg.com and the computer cases then mid tower atx cases. Find the one you like :D
