cheaper to buy before or after christmas?

i've been looking around dell.com and they have a sale that ends on 12/14. i'm debating about buying a computer because i'm wondering if it will be even cheaper after xmas. how low can the prices usually go / how much can be cut off the cost? has there ever been 1/2 off or more sales?
 
i'm just asking in general and based on past sales. i see some comps that are over $1000 & i'm wondering if those prices will drop a lot lower when xmas is over. because the pre-christmas deals look good but i'm short a few hundred on some of the more expensive ones.
 
Probably before, since there's sales everywhere, though you'll see some new year's sales as well.

However, I wouldn't buy anything other than a monitor from Dell unless the discount was huge...
