I am looking to buy my dad a 19 inch lcd for Christmas to replace his 17 inch crt. I think I am going to stick with standard instead of widescreen since that is what he is used to. He doesn't play games or watch movies, he just uses it for internet, finances and other stuff like that. I want to get one with speakers to save more space. I would like to know where the cheapest place to buy monitors. Also what brands would you recommend?

What I would NOT recommend: Westinghouse

What I WOULD recommend (in my experiences): Acer, I-INC...

Newegg & TigerDirect have pretty good deals.

the place i got mine which i thought was pretty cheap was geeks.com
i got a 22" for $195...but sales go up and down and there stuff is usually refurbished

Oscar, newegg and tigerdirect have stupid policies about dead pixels which would required 8 or more pixels to return it, so is better to buy local

Yeah I know that, but the only dead pixel from Newegg/Tigerdirect I had (3 LCD's... BenQ, I-INC, and Acer) which was one, came out with one little rub...

Yeah, I agree the policies are horrible, but as long you get a trustworthy brand I wouldn't worry TOO much 'bout it...

Local shops can be great, but avoid Best Buy. Horrible overpriced monitors. And my mom's still wondering how I got a 19" Widescreen with speakers, 1/2 of her response time, and a MUCH clearer view for 1/2 the price...

What do you think about this one:

I think I am going to stay with standard over widescreen since he is using standard now. I just don't know about the brand. I want something that will last awhile with no problems. I have a HannsG and no problems but I have not had it that long. I also heard that HannsG customer service if no help at all.

I have looked at Viewsonic and Samsung but most of them are over 200 bucks. I want to stay under 200 bucks.
