Check Disk for Errors

Hello.

Please i would like some help on a small problem i am facing on a HP Pavilion dv2000. I am using Windows Vista and when i start the laptop normally i get a scan disk for errors, it gets to 4 or 6% and stays there. the maximum i left it to continue is about 1 hour and a half which i think is too much for it to scan. I need a solution or any advice to help this issue be resolved. Any help would be great..

Thanks

I would like to add that i can load vista is i canel scan disk and work normally but i believe that this error i am getting might cause problems in the near future.

Thanks again

CHKDSK has an option to fix the errors. I'm not sure how it works with Vista, but something like CHKDSK c: /f should do it.

Under most cases, bad sectors have developed. The only fix I know for this is a zero-write/low-level format, or simply install a new drive. zero-write does not always correct the problem, and as you may guess, it's destructive.

At the moment i am doing a Hard Drive Self Test under the options in the BIOS to see if there is any errors in the HDD so i would know if the HDD is filled with bad sectors. My last option is to reformat using the delete partition options fdisk, although i am not sure it would help much if i have any bad sectors.

I am still hoping for more advises from members of computer forum.

Thanks

I'm not sure what your hard drive self test does. It may not scan for bad sectors, your best best is to boot into Vista and run the check the other one suggested.

the Hard Drive Self Test did the job, right after it finished the test, restarted the pc and it did a repair and it went well. but i am still worried the same problem will accor in the near future is the Hdd has any bad sectors..

Thanks for the help
