Hard Drive - For that price you can get a 500GB

Video Card - Recommend a HD 4870

Otherwise, looks good.

What is the main use of the computer??

thanks for the advice both of you... the main use for the computer will be gaming, but i also need to use it for work in college....

Yea, just stick with the advice cohen gave. And I'd highly recommend a 4870, I've got one and am super happy with it there is nothing that slows this thing down.

Wait a sec... the HD 4870 only has 512mb of memory compared to the card i have has 1gb and they are both gddr3 i think... could you explain to me why that card you suggested would be better, im a little new to the hardware scene

What card do you have now?

The difference is the core architecture, type of VRAM and bus speeds. First off, the 4870 is based off of 55nm process, which is super efficient, compared to older dy's. The ram on the 4870 is GDDR5 not GDDR3, bandwidth difference there is HUGE. The bus that the ram operates on is also faster, the ram can refresh and push data through EXTREMELY fast now.

looks good but if i were you i wouldn't get a microsoft keyboard, last time i had one of them it set on fire, had to buy a new keyboard, mouse, computer desk and game pad. if your gonna be using your computer for games i'd go for the Logitech G15 keyboard and the Logitech G9 mouse.

this is the card i was looking at until cohen told me to look at another... what makes the one with 512mb better?

Already answered this question.

9800GX2 has a lot of heat issues with the card design, it requires an extremely well ventilated case to keep cool. Something that an SFF case is not going to provide. The secondary PCI slot used for the 4870 exhausts the heat outside the case instead of into, like the 9800GX2.
