This build is for my friends dad. He plays a lot of first person shooters. The budget is $2000 USD. The only thing I'm not really sure about is the PSU. He is thinking about SLI later on. He's already got monitor, mouse, etc.

Case: Antec Nine Hundred
Mobo: EVGA 122-CK-NF68-A1
Gpu: EVGA 8800 GTX
Psu: ENERMAX INFINITI EIN720AWT
Cpu: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
Ram: A-DATA Extreme Edition 2GB
Hdd: WD 150GB Raptor
Rom: LG Electronics SATA DVD Burner
Sound: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme
Cooling: Swiftech H20-120 PREMIUM
Total: 2,004.88

Edit: Also the monitor being used will be like 42'' lcd hdtv. Will that GTX suffice?

Enermax make great PSUs. That will be more than enough for what you're using it for..

I know it's a mixed bag but i'd still get the q6600 over the e6850..

The A-data RAM is unknown to me, but it shouldn't pose any problems.

Good build.

Don't know why you'd cheap out on the RAM.

I would Get some Corsair or OCZ RAM.

And yeah I'd get the Q6600

How much difference would there be between the e6850 and the q66?
Also, I have read many good reviews on that ram, so as far as I'm concerned, it will be fine. Plus, it fits the budget nicely.
And, about the GTX question I edit posted?

Well, even if the GTX couldn't suffice, there wouldn't be much more to choose from. But I think you'll be fine with the GTX. I don't know if it would be worth it to buy an Ultra for $100 more.

Wow, large monitor. Depending on who you ask you'll get a different answer.. i think it'll work however.

THe e6850 is better with single apps while the q6600 is better with multiple, this is simply because most games still aren't multi-threaed ( and those that are, are coded poorly). As soon as good multi-threaded apps are released you can expect the q6600 to be the better chip in all respects. :)

so future proof with the q6600?

I sound like a broken record lol, but yeah.

But what better reason to buy a chip? The difference between either of those chips right now isn't so great.. and later the q6600 will close and surpass that gap. Seems obvious which chip to get. ;)

Yeah, I just wanna make sure. Anything else?? I think I make damn good builds.

The only thing I'm worried about is HDD space. I've already used Around 250Gb's out of my 500Gb total.. But that's an easy fix he can worry about later.

With the Q6600 it'll be perfect. A Damn fine gaming machine.

well, i may be too late, but i would much rather choose an ATI HD2900 over the GTX, for price/power ratio, then splurge on some ram, and maybe some other cool components
