Checking Power Supply

Dumb question, but one PSupply makes an odd sound,
therefore I need to run it and listen close, etc, etc.

Question is does PSupply 'have to be' connected to
board to check out ?? It won't harm the Psupply any
just to turn it on and listen, will it?

the problem wold be to get it running when its not connected ;) since the power swicht is located on the mobo :)

Yeah

The motherboard turns on the PSU. Although when you have nothing connected to it, it's ON but not using the full capabilities. It's in a standby mode if you will. Therefore you would have to know how to jump start it or attach it to an old mobo to prevent it from possibly damaging the motherboard. What kind of noise does it make?
