Chipset Recommendations

Would like to know some good chipset brands for Intel motherboards going into gaming rig. Thanks for the feedback.

Price range: Average to slightly above average.

Even with AMD boards and ATI video cards here the preference has always been for the nForce chipsets by NVidia. For any plans on an SLI setup you will need an NVidia chipset while an ATI or now AMD chipset for Crossfire with ATI cards. VIA and SIS fall to the wayside most often.
 
I'm using the P35 Chipset. Works well. I'm not sure if it's meant for gaming or not, but it provides great stability as far as what i'm using it for.

I've heard that the X38's are pretty good though for gaming. Not sure about the X48's though.

Just some recommendations ^^^. I would do some SERIOUS research before purchasing anything though. I'm not really the person to be talking to about chipsets.
 
Besides Intel, AMD, NVidia's nForce, ATI(now owned by AMD), VIA, and SIS chipsets you generally won't any more for desktop boards whether or not Intel for the most part. Those are the names for chipsets commonly seen for atx model boards.

For a serious gaming build where an NViidia or ATI single model card is chosen the nForce would always seem to be the top performer in competition with AMD at this time. Besides the chipset alone however the make and model board will also play a big role for the type of build you intend there. Asus, Gigabyte. and MSI always take the lead with Abit and DFI not too far behind performance wise.
 
The X38 would be the best IMO, because it supports dual PCI-E x16 slots running at full bandwidth, vs the P35 which runs at 16x/4x.
 
i was wondering, does the 770 chipset on the asus motherboard im getting overclock much? im hoping to get my phenom up to 3GHZ when i overclock it, is the motherboard capable?
