Besides Intel, AMD, NVidia's nForce, ATI(now owned by AMD), VIA, and SIS chipsets you generally won't any more for desktop boards whether or not Intel for the most part. Those are the names for chipsets commonly seen for atx model boards.
For a serious gaming build where an NViidia or ATI single model card is chosen the nForce would always seem to be the top performer in competition with AMD at this time. Besides the chipset alone however the make and model board will also play a big role for the type of build you intend there. Asus, Gigabyte. and MSI always take the lead with Abit and DFI not too far behind performance wise.
