chipsets

I know that most people agree that PC chips mobos have some of the worst chipsets out there. VIA chipsets are OK, and so are Intel, but probably the best are the nVidia nForce series...I don't know aout the ATI chipsets or any others though.

just in general. there are no fancy numbers to go by for chipsets like other computer parts.
1. Past history (i.e., nForce > Intel > Via > ATi > SiS)
2. Generally you dont buy a motherboard purely on a chipset but rather on the implementation of that chipset (i.e., two boards with the same chipset can be ridiculously different)
3. Exceptions are everywhere

Well that kinda rules out almost all the chipsets since PC Chips makes boards with virtually all them

Except the NF3-150

The two best chip sets are NVidia and ATI. Awsome results
Except neither are chipsets. nVidia and ATi are both companies and not chipsets.

how do i tell the difference between one NVidia and another?
From a shopping perspective, by their model number. From a technical perspective, by their featureset.

I get the feeling you're searching around for a motherboard (rather than a chipset)? If so, id suggest searching by the make and model of the board than by the chipset
