Hi all..
I m looking to buy a laptop(personal use only) preferable a macbook near abt $1500 ...

Plz suggest the best buy in this range (apple or any other company). Any sales on apple laptops anywhere in us.

Well, if you must get a Mac laptop, get a Pro.

But, you can get a cheaper laptop with similar specs
for much less.

Apple's way too overpriced, then you have to fight with
their OS to install programs you want. Not worth it IMO.

As far as APPLE goes you aren't gonna see any sales really, besides their little ones they offer once in a while.

However, like others have said, you can buy an Acer, HP, Dell, and get more bang for your buck. If you want to go with some direct savings try Newegg.

Why get Apple Products when they cost the earth?
You could get a cool new laptop for a decent price and STILL save a ton of money to buy anything else such as accessories :D

I agree 100 percent, but he did ask about Apple.

Apple uses MAC OS, there are many versions. They are currently on Mac OSX (10). Apple hardware is much more expensive than regular Dell, HP, etc.

If you only have until tomorrow you might want to go down to Best Buy and test out a few to make sure you like it and it suits your needs.

i see most of u do not suggest apple...
i m actually going for looks and reliable performance and a good battery backup.. no gaming but i yes i would need to use some softwares i m using on windows right now.

please suggest me the best models in this range with respective configuration(no acer, hp and gateway)

I would second that, but for under $1500, the MacBooks are not horrible.

Also true. I would also emphasize "cheaper", because in many cases - not all - you will not get the same build quality that you would with an Apple.

Debatable with spec vs design as far as cost is concerned, but this is highly subjective. You will pay a premium for Apple products.

I am curious about the "fight with the OS to install programs you want" part though. Have you had such a struggle with installing applications on OSX in the past? :)

Yes, on OSX you can install Boot Camp, which will allow you to
install Windows on it, but what's the point in spending all that
money for a Mac, only to put Windows on it?

Just get a Non-Mac laptop, with the fastest CPU, most RAM,
and best GPU you can afford.

This is where I stand on the whole Apple issue. They are very intuitive and have some cool products. They are highly over-priced, and the quality argument doesn't apply (you can get just as good build quality for less).

If you are going to buy a Mac then use the Operating System. Don't buy an Apple product just to install Vista on. You'd be wasting your money. Learn the OS and enjoy what you've paid for.

If you want a laptop to run Windows programmes on then a Windows laptop would be your best bet!

Whats wrong with HP and Acer. If you don't want to go with either of those brands I'd suggest a Dell.

What's your price range?

Apple does make a great laptop and their support is top notch, so I would not discount them. But, would you be using the Windows programs often? If that is your primary need, then the Apple would be just eye candy for you. You can run Windows on the MacBooks - either in a virtual environment or directly booting to it. If you are interested in OSX at all, however, purchasing an Apple computer is the easiest and only leagal way to run it.

You would be hard pressed to find a laptop with the same aesthetic appeal and design quality as the MacBooks. There are alternatives though.

Take a look at these:

ASUS G50VT-X6 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220483

ASUS N80Vn-X5 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220488

MSI GX620-001US - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152086

Sony VGN-FW373J/B - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834117857

And these aren't bad units either:

Gateway P-7801u - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834101166

HP dv7-1270us - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834147919

if you get a mac and mostly run windows programs, you fail it. youre paying for eye candy that you don't really need. true computer users will not be impressed with your hardware if all you can say about it is "its a mac".

mac is not the way to go if you are comfortable with windows already. mac hardware and software is a whole different league outside of pc land.

imho, macs are for college idiots who dont know any better.

with that being said, mac hardware and software is very reliable, and there are many software options that let you run windows programs inside mac. for example, you can run parallels, which lets you run windows alongside osx. or you could run the new vmware fusion, which lets you run windows programs in the mac gui seamlessly. or you could use the afformentioned "boot camp". but if you use boot camp, you might as well have gotten a windows lappy to begin with.
