choosing a good brand memory

I am running a ASUS nforce4 SLI motherboard and have been looking to buy some new memory. ASUS says to use Cosair with their mobo's. my question is the cosair value Ram as good as the XMS . Both are PC3200 dual channel. The value ram is $185.00 and the XMS is $239.00. If any has any comments on this please let me know. This is my current system.
My System
asus AN8 SLI Premium mobo
Amd 64x2 4400+ dual core cpu
enermax 600watt psu
2 Evga 6800 Gs 256mb PCI express boards
2 gb of Cosair dual channel pc3200 (4 x 512 )
Pri. HD WD 10,000 rpm 74gb sata raptor
Sec > HD WD 7200 rpm 250gb sata
HP DL DVD lightscribe burner
NEC DL DVD burner
Case Aspire Navigator
 
Any kind of "value" RAM usually isn't as good as nonvalue RAM. I would go with the XMS if you're going to be playing a lot of games which you probably will with that kind of system.
 
Overclocking --> XMS
Not Overclocking --> ValueSelect

The XMS would be better in either situation, but you wont notice much difference if your not overclocking.
 
I'm not overclocking and only play a few games such as Tiger woods 2006 and nascar 2005. I 've been told that some of the problems I 've had with my system could stem from using all four banks of the memory on my board. That is one reason I'm looking to upgrade.Thanks for the info.

well since ur not gaming u dont need high end ram like Corsair Xms. but u can still get substantially cheap ram with heatspreaders on it, that will allow for future overclocking if needed.
 
There's no need to restrict your choices to Corsair RAM. Yes it's quite good, but there are plenty of other companies who also make good quality RAM. Just because ASUS recommend it, doesn't mean it will work the best in their boards.

As for ValueRAM vs XMS, the ValueRAM sounds like it should be fine for your purposes.
