Choosing a Heat Sink...

if you want something quieter, id suggest the aerocool gt-1000.
if you want something to overclock, id suggest the aerocool gt-1000 with a vantec tornadoe (or two) and a fan controller. personally, thats what im doing with the addition of two vantec tornadoe 92mm fan Dampeners

heres the aerocool heatsink FROM AEROCOOL http://www.aerocool.us/p-cooler/gt-1000/gt1000.htm
heres the vantec tornado 92mm link from their website http://www.vantec.com.tw/_en/01_product/03_detail_01overview.php?mainid=1&fid=9&sid=24&id=93
heres the fan dampeners link from vantecs website http://www.vantec.com.tw/_en/01_product/03_detail_01overview.php?mainid=4&fid=78&sid=85&id=62
and fan controller link from vantecs website http://www.vantec.com.tw/_en/01_product/03_detail_01overview.php?mainid=2&fid=19&sid=47&id=18

also note: vantec tornadoes are also a little bit wider than your average case fan. it shouldnt make much of a difference, but hey who knows!

you WILL want a fan controller. those fans are LOUD! read some reviews... they sound like hair dryers.

oh, btw i already bought that heatsink. its very nice, gold conducts heat better than copper. i havent used it yet but this is because i dont want to waste silver 5, for im building a new (dual core AMD) rig soon. if u wait ill tell you how well my idea works when i try it. :) of course, i have experience so it should
mind you, the heatsink is copper, and GOLD PLATED. this does help performance anyways though.

mmkay... yes i googled it and gold is slightly worse than copper i take it back. however, this heatsink has 36 large fins and surface area and the fan airflow matter more than the heatsink material. also, gold conducts heat better than ALUMINUM... all three are VERY good heat conductors.
also, the heatsink will blow the hot air straight out of the back on your case!

ohh.. also you can sandpaper the cpu contact spot down to the copper inside it, make it conduct heat better. im gonna try it!

Thanks everyone. I'm going to use the stock heatsink because I don't plan to overclock anytime soon. If I do then I will get a new fan.

Choosing a Heat Sink...
Big Typhoon + lapping kit

gold conducts heat better than copper.
Im no thermo expert (Yeti?) but um, the description says "gold plated fins" ... now lets think this through (assuming gold is, in fact, better) ... heat goes from CPU to heatsink and then to surrounding air. Now the contact between the heatsink and the CPU is copper so i dont see how gold is gonna help since thats your 1st bottleneck. Secondly, if you have a fan or whatnot, then we consider the goldplated copper ... there's gonna be another bottleneck between the gold plating and the copper underplating meaning the efficiency will not be more than copper ... so again, i dont see how gold is gonna help]

No it doesn't.
