Choosing a laptop under $700

I know there are many threads dedicated to this topic, and I have read most of them. I am still in a quandary however. I want to purchase a laptop so I can:

-access the internet, from home/school and Starbucks
-have Microsoft XP and use Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
-download and play music/movies
-play poker and download the software

I prefer a somewhat large screen and do not mind how heavy it is. I would like to spend less than $700. In previous threads, other users have recommended the Dell Inspiron 600m. I have looked at Dell, Compaq, and Gateway. It is hard for me to compare because I don't know the difference between the technical specifications. Do you have any suggestions for me?

there isn't really any tchnical specs that you really need to know about.. umm for starters ... just look for these..

OPERATING SYSTEM: which usually comes with XP
MB OF RAM: 256MB, 512MB, 1GB [the higher, the faster]
HARD DRIVE: 40GB, 60GB, 100GB [the higher, the more you can store ur songs]
CPU: amd, intel pentium 3 or 4, intel centrino [centrino is best bet for laptops]
SCREEN: 15, 15.4, 17, 19 [bigger better]
DRIVES: DVD-RW, DVD, CD-RW... [anything with RW means you can burn cd's or dvd]
BATTERY LIFE
VIDEO DRIVE: *might want to look at this... dont really have to since the only game your playing is poker

thats pretty much it.. you dont really need to know anyting else since all your going to do is download music/video, play poker, office... take a look at this link..

hmmmm, sam's club had an $800 averatec that would fit ur needs perfectly for a very small package, but if u can't afford the extra 100 or so dollars, try one of the cheap HP's.

the 600m can go on sale often and is near 700$. for battery life i suggest the pentium M because its leading the way in both speed and battery life. 256mb/512mb of ram should be sufficient to run what you are doing. however if you plan on multitasking i highly suggest atleast 512 mb. since you arent doing anything video demanding then you can go with an integrated video card. the inspiron 700m is only 14.1 inch and is highly portable. do you play any games besides poker?
