Choosing AMD CPU

Hi,

I'm buying a new gaming pc and I have to decide which cpu I'm going to use.

I've divided the choices in two becasue I still don't know how much money I'll be able to spend so there you have the a group with cheaper processors and the b group with more expensive ones:

a) 3500+ or 3700+ or 3800+

b) 4000+ or X2 3800+

Thanks,

Fedcer

Thanks 34erd!

And what about between the 3800+ and the X2 3800+ (as I said before, for gaming :) )

Thanks againg,

Fedcer

The X2 3800+ is the superior chip here.

More and more games are going to be multithreaded (some already are), which means that a dual core chip will take the lead by far.

Thanks tweaker,

I have a doubt about the X2 3800+ specs. It sais that the clock speed is 2.0 Ghz, but that is counting both toghether or each one has 2.0 Ghz ?

Thanks,

Fedcer

Hi, I forgot to tell you that I don't live in the USA, so I have very different priceces. Here there are the best ones I've found:

Athlon64 3500+ -> 281$

Athlon64 3700+ -> 347$

Athlon64 3800+ -> 422$

Athlon64 4000+ -> 485$

Athlon64 X2 3800+ -> 454$

So, what do you think?

thanks,

Fedcer

the 32$ difference between the X2 3800+ and the 3800+ is minimal, I say the X2 3800+

i highly recommend the x2 3800... i have yet to bog this cpu down.
btw what games are out that are multithreaded?

Sorry for the thread jack, but I'm sure this could help the thread starter. So, if a game is multithreaded enabled, does that mean that the CPU will run at 4.0 ghz? Also, wouldn't it be better to get a 3000+ and OC to 2.7 ghz?

No, read CPU 101 or do further resaherch, because ifi attemped to explain it I wuold jsut confuse you, and prabally me too.

yes, but lets remeber that we are comparing these chips at stock performance, you can oc a 3800 x2 as well you know.

Maybe, but I'm not gonna do any OC so...

Thanks everyone for their anwers, now I'm almost surely going for the X2 3800+

i have a toledo core, very overclockable. ive read people's reviews on newegg for the winchester core(?) and some say 2.4, 2.6 on air, 2.7 on water.
