Choosing CPU & Mobo

Hi, my friend is willing to spend $1200 CAN on a CPU and a Mobo. He wants them to last for about 5 years and be able to keep up with gaming, programs, and windows vista. He is not sure if he wants AMD or Pentium.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Man, I am new here and learning things as read and post. The one thing that seems to be constant is this: Jump in the game because as soon as you buy and build something new is ready to come on the market. I strongly suggest that you go to Microsoft and look up Vista. They have a place that gives you all the computer suggestions you need to be ready for this OS. I wanted to do what your friend is attempting, i.e. a rig ready for the future, but with technology ever changing that isn't going to happen.

feel a holy grail quote coming on, you can build a rig that will play current games awesome, but it performance on games in 5 years will be mediocre at best
