Choppy audio/video

I recently moved my computer from college to my home and ever since I moved it, when i am watching a video (thru KM player) or listening music (thru Zune player) at times the audio/video becomes very choppy and laggy. I updated my sound card and my video card drivers but it didnt help. I am also connected wirelessly to my home network and for some reason my internet is exceptionally slow. Many a times my internet would completely die even though my comp says i am connected. I am not sure if the internet thing is at all related but it is also an issue. Below i have included a report of my computer. Thanks in advance for all your help!

If internet access is required to watch or listen to these things you are doing and you said that the internet is slow, then thats most likely your issue. How far away are you from the router? What type of wireless adapter are you using?

Thanks for your quick reply!

My computer is set up on the other side of the house from the router. My wireless adapter is Network Adapter Linksys WMP600N Wireless-N PCI Adapter with Dual-Band. All other wireless computers connect better than my computer. There is also another problem with our internet in that many a times, our internet will just die and we have to reset our router and then it is fine for a while. We have subscribed for 20Mbps internet. I feel that this internet issue may be unrelated to the lag i am experiencing with my audio and video with files that are already on my computer.

Yeah, if the files are already on your computer than you have a separate issue then the slow internet causing your choppy sound and video. Most likely upon moving your computer you may have cause something to loosen up a little. I would the cover off the side of the computer case and reseat video card, ram, all power connections to mobo and pci cards.

As far as your internet goes, you may have a bad modem, router or problems with the Internet Provider. What router do you have? And if you are on the opposite side of the house, thats definately the reason why your wireless keeps cutting out on you. You need to troubleshoot your internet first and then maybe that will solve your wireless but not gauranteed. Try a different router first. You may have to figure out how to run a ethernet cable from router to your system. If you have a basement, you can run a cable through the floor to the basement and then over to the area below the area where your computer and is and then go back up through the floor.

i was thinking about something getting loose, however, upon inspection nothing seemed to be loose. I didn't infact take it out and put it back in. I could try reseating everything but my soundcard is built into my motherboard. How can the connection be loose on that? Should i still try in reseat everything?

Regarding the internet. Other computers that are in the same room are connected to the wireless network perfectly fine. My computer shows a couple bars and says it has internet connection but in actuality i sometimes doesn't. Our current router is the linksys wrt310n v2. we have also tried the netgear range-max wireless n router. Our internet service provider is comcast. Also at times it feels like when the home phone line is used, which is also through comcast, the internet is down.

That sounds like a problem with comcast's modem since it has phone included with it. Have them switch it out for a different one.

Yeah ill look into that. Do you have any input on the audio/video problem?...that seems to be the problem I am trying to focus on first.

Have you tried doing a system restore back to before it was moved to see if that has fixed the issue?

You should lose the WMP600N, it's a steaming pile with Windows 7 x64. I had one for a few months and my latency and throughput were both terrible. Any time I was connected with that card, my audio would also be choppy (VLC).

I ended up buying their USB adapter (Linksys AE1000). Connectivity is consistent, throughput is what it should be, and audio no longer lags. Do yourself a favor and throw away the WMP600N.

EDIT: Updating to the latest chipset driver from ralink (RT2860 v3.1.0.0) fixed the audio choppiness, but the connection quality still leaves much to be desired. I'd still suggest getting a different card.
