Cleaning Fans

I just noticed today when I started up my PC that my 120mm intake fan was failing. Was running really slow..50rpm im guessing. I recently cleaned out my PC last weekend when I noticed the intake fan running slow (not to the point of 50rpm though). After that, it ran at full speed again. However, now it's failing. I'm guessing dust got into the motor. I read a little article a few months ago about how to clean out your fans without having to buy a new one. I can't seem to find it now. Tried to take the blade assembly off but with no luck.

Not a big issue if I have to buy a new one. Was only $12 if I remember, just a clear 120mm fan with blue led's. However, my cpu is running 5 degrees hotter now without this fan. I do have a back-up 120mm fan which I will install if I can't clean this one.

Thanks in Advance.

This works pretty well ;) Then, find the plug on the bottom(side the air flows towards) remove the sticker/plug, and spray some WD-40 or some good lube in there and seal it back up. The fans usally won't run much longer, but you could get another month or so out of it...

Haha! I let mine dry over night. I never plugged it into a computer just because I had none to use it on, but I do have a pic of it running on a battery. Besides, I dont think it'd hurt much of anything if it were wet as long as you didn't drop on the motherboard itself...

I disassembled a 1997 vintage P166 sys, the fans (1x40mm, 2x80mm) were still all running. One of those old fans I'm kicking myself for putting in a school box - it was quiet and powerful 80mm.
