cleaning hard drive

I downloaded and used "killdisk" free version, there's still something on my HD . Killdisk free version only overwrites with zero's. Predictable patterns are easy to defeat. Whats needed is random pattern overwrite. This is available on the premium download but I thought there might be another way. Random patterns are available at home, running water, wind, fan motors, etc. I reasoned that recording running water over the entire HD would erase any infection. I removed the HD from the computer to be donated, installed it into my new computer as drive D, and attempted to overwrite the disk with running water but windows "sound recorder doesn't seem to record to disk D. Is there a way to make this setting?

Are you trying to erase all data on the disc so that there's no way to recover it? Acronis has several ways to erase the disc or overwrite it if you want to look into it.

Acronis Disk Cleanser does a good job. You can be as thorough or un-thorough and you want.
