Cleaning LCDs

Is water dangerous to clean LCD screens with? Could you wipe it down with a wet towel and then dry it, becuase that almost seems like it would sink in and do damage. I know you cant use windex or anything, like with CRTs, so then how do you clean smudges from LCDs?

yes the glasses wipes are good i wouldnt recommend water not speaking from personal experience but from a gut feeling

I use general purpose furniture polish for my desk, LCD & CRT screens, PC case, everything. Use a smooth cloth with it like a glasses lens cloth or if you have a Disc Repairer, it should prolly come with a cloth and buffer. The cloth is what I use since it is bigger than my glasses lens cleaner. I see no reason why water would screw it up unless you just dump water onto the screen and let it run down the screen and into the monitor. Just put some in a spray bottle or use a damp cloth. Windex is probably a nice alternative too.

You actually are not supposed to use Window cleaner (ammonia based) on CRTs either as most CRTs today use some sort of coating on the glass for anti-glare.

Anyway a damp cloth is actually best. They actually tell you to use a damp cloth with water or even ammonia free glass cleaner. The documentation that came with my LCD had a section for cleaning and this is what it recommended.

Thanks guys, I'll check my documentation when my new LCD comes, but probly just plan on using a damp cloth. Thanks again.
