Hey I just wanted to ask what you guys use when cleaning the CPU core when you remove the heatsink. I have a good Cooolermaster CPU cooler but it's too noisy. I mean I think it goes over 30dB! So anyway, I remember it had that white colored thermal pad. Once I remove that, I will need to wipe off the remnants and apply a thermal paste. Lemme know what ya recommend .
Hey well I solved my cleaning issue with a normal lighter fuel. It cleaned like a charm! I have changed the cooler and used the white silicone based heat compound supplied in a little tube with my cooler. As I have found, it has better qualities than the silvery Arctic Silver stuff you guys propagate here. I now have my processor at 41 Celsius idle. The reason AS is not suitable is because the base of my CPU cooler is fine polished and a silicone bases paste is more suitable.
1. My cooler is fine polished too and AS5 works well (even though im not that big a fan of it)
2. The Dow-Corning T-340 silicone stuff is ok compared to the default stuff that comes with the cpu in most cases but it pales next to AS3/AS5/ASC ... personally i wouldnt expect it to be rated past 100,000W/m²ºC (compared to say 350,000W/m²ºC for AS5 or 200,000W/m²ºC for ASC)
