Every once in a while when I start my laptop the clock is an hour off. This does not happen all the time. My laptop is two months old running vista home prem. Any idea what could cause this?

yes. One day I will turn it on and its fine. Another day I will turn it on and its off an hour so I reset it and it will be fine again for a week or so.

thats, weird I have never seen clock acting this way at least not on my comp...
someone playing prank on you??? :D:D

but yeah, im not sure whats the problem here... maybe someone else with more experience can help you with this... anyone??

No prank. I'm the only one that uses the computer. Not sure if it has something to do with aero in vista, or I just may be fishing on that.

Did you set the time zone correctly?

This is probably a stupid question but what is the real purpose of setting the time zone. I mean if you set your clock on your computer wouldn’t it just stay at the time you set? Why does it need to know what time zone you’re in. Or let’s say you set your time on your computer at 6:00pm and you live in the Eastern Time zone but have your time zone set to central, does the computer keep setting it back an hour every time you turn on your computer? Does the computer know exactly what time it is in the central time zone at all times or for that matter any time zone?

Doesn't Windows occasionally logon to an atomic clock in Colorado to set your computer's time? If so, it needs to know which time zone you're in to properly adjust the time setting.

Not sure but that would explain it. I have also noticed that windows xp and vista have an internet sync option tab in the time set window. Would this affect something?

well, setting the time zone affect whether your time is affected by the Daylight Saving Time...

Another possibility is that maybe your comp is not in sync with the atomic clock said by Wiens. And Windows don't always check for synchronization. Therefore, when they check for synchronization it may set your comp off by an hour and then when you fixed it, it will be your local time which again out of sync with the atomic clock.

The reason you only see it like once a week, its probably that is the time Windows check for synchronization an automatically change it for you to be in sync with their clock (but off by an hour for your time).

Hope this clarifies things... :)
