Clone hard drive to new computer

Hey everyone,

I have researched and now am more confused than ever. I have a laptop which I use constantly and have now purchased a new desktop that I would prefer to use. What I am trying to do is clone the laptops hard drives and then install the cloned image onto the desktop. Is this even possible and if so, which software should I use. I have Ghost, Acronis and I think something else.

Many many years ago I did something like this but for some reason I am not being able to do it this time.

Any help and suggestions would so greatly appreciated.

its a lot more complicated than that. you cant really clone your laptop harddrive over to your new desktop, it wont work.
 
Back up all essential data and then just upload it to the new computer.

Or, use the "Transfer Files and Settings" wizard in XP.
