Hi everyone,

Was looking for some advice on cloning a Samsung 256 SSD to a Corsair m4 512 GB SSD. I have a hard drive clone kit and I can just pop the two hard drives in there and clone them... Ive never used it... I normally clone just by using Norton ghost. My question is when I use the clone kit... will the the Destination Hard Drive (Corsair m4) have a 256 partition?

Sorry if that was confusing.

Matt

Dont know what clone kit your talking about. But there should be a option to keep the partition that you have or copy it over to the full size of the new drive.

I don't know about cloning. Does cloning software align the drive? Seems like you could shrink the partition if it clones to the whole drive? Maybe use something like Diskpart to partition and align the bigger drive then clone to that partition?

Most good ones will let you partition to any size you want. Some free generic ones will only clone to the size of the original partition.

To answer your question, generally yes, bit by bit cloning will mean the final partition will be the same size as the original. But once done, you can easily go into Disk Manager and extend the partition out to maximum, or create a second 256GB partition etc for files.

If i were you though i would start from fresh.

So pop in the Norton disk and just restore it that way? Allright I guess i'll go with that
No. AS in, dack up all your data then, fresh install the os and your programs to the bigger ssd. You can partition it with the installer. Is it Windows 7?
