Clueless Gamer Trying to Build a Gaming System

Dear All
Would appreciate any advice regarding a new gaming system.

It mostly revolves around MoBo and Graphics Cards.

I've done a load of research, looked and compared the specs and bought all the mags but still can't decide / understand, so I've come to hear some opinions here.

MoBo: Using a Intel Core i7 2600 3.40GHz (Sandy Bridge)
I'm stuck between the
Asus P8P67 Pro Intel P67 (Socket 1155) Motherboard - B3 Revision
or a
Asus Maximus IV Extreme Intel P67 (Socket 1155) Motherboard - B3 Revision

I know the Maximus is double the price but is it worth it? What advantages would it really give me. I've not got the knowledge to overclock or bravery.


Graphics Card:The Shop where I'm buying the system from has the NVIDIA Geforce GTX 580 Graphics Card but having done some research I see for the same price I could get 2 AMD Radeon HD6950 1GB Cards.

It a minefield and when I'm spending £2000 I dont want to get it wrong

Other Stuff:
Monitor - LG2753VC
Headset - Roccat Kave
Mouse - Roccat Kone+
Razor Speedpad
Keyboard - Saitek Cyborg V7
Speakers - Creative Gigaworks T40 Series II

I know there are alot of questions above but any advice would be great, appreciate that everyone has personal opinions etc etc but please post if you can. just want the best system for when BF3 releases later this year.

Basically the differences between the motherboards are as follows:

The Asus P8P67 Pro Intel P67 (Socket 1155) Motherboard - B3 Revision

Only supports 2 graphics cards in SLI/Crossfire, which is perfectly fine in my opinion.

The Asus Maximus IV Extreme Intel P67 (Socket 1155) Motherboard - B3 Revision

Supports up to 4 graphics cards for Quadfire or Quad SLI, my apologies if I mistyped the actual pronunciation. Alows for higher overclocking which is definately nice to future proof your system as in two years theres going to be a new processor as always. But I mean thats really for someone who has alot of Tech knowledge if your looking to overclock that high with keeping your system stable. No one wants a 2000.00 dollar computer to have a meltdown.

Also a single card generally will always work better than having crossfire, just because of the way it works plus going with two cards requires getting a much better powersupply which costs more money aswell. So in my opinion I would go with the GTX580.
