CM power 2x 560?

i have my coolermatser 700watt powering 2 gtx460's overclocked and i have had nothing but problems.

if i try them independently they are fine, put them in sli and all hell brakes loose...

im looking at maybe a decent 800watt for my setup

Hold on...funkysnair, what cooler master PSU do you have?

700W should easily be enough, and as far as I know, all of the Silent Pro models are capable of running in spec at full wattage. Wouldn't be my first choice, but they're definitely not awful.

well it is the 700watt silent pro, im not lying here either - with the cards overclocked and all my other componants the psu is not powering both of them together! no problems with them by there selves...

50amps on the 12volt rail is not enough for them

It's not the wattage thats the issue, cooler master PSU's are junk.

I've powered three 5850's trifire (and also 5870 Xfire) with an I7 920 at 4.4ghz with a quality 720w PSU.

It only has 50A on the 12v rail, my enermax infinite 720w had 86A....so well over 1/2 again as much amperage. Albeit, that PSU was very underrated as far as total wattage.

This PSU here is the same price as the silent pro but much better quality-

Quite honestly though the Antec Earthwatts 750w is quite good bang for the buck-

I like modular's as well, but yeah the antec will power two 560's no problem. The only issue with the antec is the four rail design, but as long as you get each card on a different rail it's no issue. Each rail is 25A. A 560 draws about 14A, plus more when overclocked of course but no where near 25.
The single rail design of the XFX is better, but the Antec is actually better if used wisely.

CM psu's I personally consider the ''best of the bad''. That list is also 4 years old now.

The enermax infinity 720W does not have 86A on the +12v rails, 86A would be 1032W. 50A is 600W, slightly on the lower side for a 700W unit, but plenty to run two 560's (For comparison, the infinity 720W actually has 56A(672W) over the 12v rails). The silent pro M700 is actually quite a decent unit, spectacular no, but will run two 560's.

Jonny's analysis of the 600W unit, based on the same exact platform:

If you already own the unit, you're fine. If not, take a look at the XFX 750W, much better bang for the buck.

560's if overvolted and overclocked to max can easily push 225w each, that only leaves 150w for the CPU? Nah, not enough psu. Any I7 can push 200w when overclocked to max, same with AMD's best offerings right now.

Even if it was ''enough'', it's definitely completely maxxed out with two 560's and any decent CPU. Who wants a completely maxxed out PSU? Thats not good.

exactly i got my i7 [email protected] - gtx460 1gb gpus in sli 800/1600/2000 1.025v - and i get nothing but problems with 700watt 50a psu.

selling my cards and going with one single card.

Single rail units are easiest to use, but pretty much turn into arc welders if shorted due to no OCP. Multi rail units require you to balance the load over the rails, but with OCP prevent major amounts of damage to hardware. I personally prefer single rail units though, even with the added risk of not having OCP.
