Cmd

I have Vista, and it seems that when I have been assisted by various tech support people they have me use Start/CMD and type various things in there. It looks like it would be beneficial to learn the CMS commands. Is there a reference any of you can recommend? It is a lot like the old DOS.

CMD is in reality, all actions beside a mouse click.
When you open a notepad, in reality is something like that:
%...%notepad.exe memos.txt ...
You can start using the CMD for speed up common apps.
Eg: When you open the paint of windows or the notepad, you can do the same, in cmd prompt.
Notepad or mspaint + enter key
In windows the only usefull cmd is ipconfig or ping or (regedit -use wrong it, cause system loss).
For others commands is better to learn it carefully, because any mistake, maybe cause a loss of data or blue screen.

Alternatively when you want to try a command you can type /? after the command and it will tell you what options are available to that command.
Only problem with that is you need to know the command exists before you can query its options. The link I provided will let you know what commands exist, the /? after the command is most useful when trying to use a command you've used before but can't remember it's usage.

Getting a basic understanding of the commands isn't to hard but not used much now.
Learning the switches is the 2nd adventure and very powerful.
Was a time when i was fluent with it and comfortable. No more though. good luck with the adventure.

Just typing in "help" also provides a list of commands.
