cmedia 8738 driver problem

I have just installed xp on my 3500 64 amd on a A8N-E motherboard with 2GB ram ..

I have a sound card cmedia 8738 which is causing me no end of problems with the drivers .. I have tried every way I can think of to get the sound card working ..

I have tried using the cd that came with the sound card .. using the hardware wizard and downloaded the drivers and tried those ..

the drivers get halfway through and then freeze my system which only boots when I use the last known good config ..

any help appreciated even if it is to biff the computer out the window ..:p

Looks to me like you should try to RMA that sound card, seems it might be deffective. Also make sure it is compatilbe with your mobo (i.e, if they are both for say, PCI)
 
the sound card worked fine under windows 2000 .. the wife wanted me to change to xp .. she likes to play games on the computer and uses vent to chat to friends ..
