Hi, my brothers motherboard's bios is not detecting SATA drives properly and I am thinking he will probably need a whole new motherboard. However, I dont know which one he should get and I am hoping someone here can help me help him choose one. $50-$100 range. Socket 939, preferably not gigabyte. He has a PCI video card, AMD Athlon 64 3700, Regular SATA WD 250 GB HDD. The motherboard he currently has is a gigbyte ga-k8nxp-sli. If you can help that would be great. Feel free to ask any qyestions.

Your mobo supports SATA ... if you have a problem with the BIOS you can simply update it if there's any update for it.
I think you just can't find where in the BIOS to enable SATA or boot from SATA.
Read the manual :)

Either flash the BIOS, or check and make sure all the motherboard drivers are installed.

I dont know how to update it, because windows wont start up because it wont recognize the hard drive to boot from it. Is there a way I can make a bootable CD to install the drivers?

All you need to do is enable the computer to boot from sata, it's in your BIOS.
PLEASE READ THE MANUAL!!!!

Shady, I appreciate the time you took to write the message. BUT I HAVE ENABLED THAT! I know a little bit more about computers then you think, this isn't some simple fix that you can fix by changing some settings in the bios. There is something wrong with the motherboard. IT WONT DETECT THE HARD DRIVE! The problem isn't booting from the drive its detecting it. The hard drive wont even show up in the bios. Even if what your suggesting is the problem, and I just need to switch that setting, then it still wouldn't matter because the BIOS doesn't see the hard drive that it would be booting off of. That option is enabled. The Hard drive does work on my computer so I know its not the hard drive. I have been working on this problem for 2-3 weeks and I have been through all the trial and error/process of elimination crap/all the basic possibilities. Something is not working with the motherboard and I either need to know how to make a cd that will reinstall the drivers without windows or He will have to buy a new motherboard. I also plugged an IDE drive that has windows installed on it and it started to boot windows for half a second and then gives a blue screen with a bunch of text on it for half a second and then restarts. I appreciate your guys' help, but Im not a noob, Ive been through all the basic fixes with this problem, all I need to know is can I make a bootable cd with the motherboards drivers that will boot without using windows, and How? Thanks

Jeff

Jet, The motherboard doesn't have the flash option, and I can't check to make sure all the drivers are installed because I cant access windows because it wont recognize the hard drive and therefor wont boot from it. As shady said I need to update the BIOS, but I dont know how to do that on a computer that thinks it doesnt have a hard drive and therefore cant use windows. Thanks
