i'v been told that there will be no dedicated servers for CoDM W2,does that mean if you rent your own servers you cannot play the game on them. Please dont get technical with the answer as i'm think when it comes to computers and stuff.

Yes, you can rent your own server or own a server with it on and anyone can join it.

I'd imagine what they mean is that neither IW nor Activision will have their own servers, much like CoD4 and WaW

For the PC version? Where did you see this?

Some of you may have read about the rumours surrounding whether dedicated server support will be available in the upcoming CoD:MW2.

Read Here: http://bashandslash.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=739&Itemid=111

This afternoon, during a live BASH episode, who should turn up but Infinity Wards community manager, Fourzerotwo.

A number of questions were put forward, including the dedi server question. Rob "fourzerotwo" Bowling replied with no - dedi servers will not be available. Multiplayer will run through a "IWNet" and servers will not be available for purchase. Listen Servers only.

Furthermore, Bowling also confirmed that PunkBuster will not be supported, alternatively using the Valave Anti-Cheat (or VAC) system.

BASH is still live with 402 - listen live here!:

honestly now i don't believe this, there are some very reuputable server hosts currently allowing servers for preorder. Also, our clan own a server, we don't rent one, and have it all ready to be put on the day before so no, i don't believe this at all

=EDIT=

woah woah woah, from reading fully, including the forum, what i am getting is this:

there is a matchmaking system that you can use, much like the consoles, BUT, that is to get more equal matches, it also says:

They will be using the same type of master servers as Modern Warfare. They are not using GFW

The master server that CoD4 uses is the big server with all of the server info on, it is the list you see when you search the servers, i thibnk you have an option for each, but there are still dedicated servers

=EDIT=

s*iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit apparently it is true

listen to the interview here, read about the changes here:

f**king bullshit, who the hell would have such a stupid idea, IW will lose all credibility because of this if they follow through with it

Sorry for bringing bad news.

hmm about an hour after you first posted this a friend sent me a link to the full interview and to the latest hackdndslash updates, so it would have come anyway :(

first thing tomorrow, i'm canceling my pre-order until this shit is cleared up, not buying a game pretty much just for the multiplayer, when the multiplayer sucks and I can't even play with the people I want to.

that and this just about f**ks up the 24 hour marathon we may have to call that off or go on CoD4 for 24 hours, which would suck compared to how we had imagined doing the MW2 marathon.

I don't believe it until I see it on Infinity Ward's frontpage. COD4's reputation was built on multiplayer, IW knows that. No dedicated server support would be suicide.

I think this is BS, or perhaps a prank. Or maybe someone is severely misinformed.
