I recently purchased company of heroes and it is deciding not to work properly. The screen randomly goes black and it freezes and shuts down(the game not my pc). Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

So at what point does this happen? do you play for a bit and then it happens? does it happen right away? are your video drivers and sound drivers up to date?

it happens at all different points and before i saw your post i was like its prolly the drivers, so i'll check it out

So it turns out that even though i loaded in the driver cd on wednesday, it didnt take it and now when i try to load it in it has an error and sais there is a "catastrophic failure"

Remove your drivers via "Add or Remove Programs" and install the drivers from fresh. You should never install over old drivers (I don't know if you did this or not). Just download the latest drivers for your specific card. If you use the CD that came with your card you'll be surely using older drivers.

I'm not trying to say that drivers are the issue, I merely suggest the possibility.

Ha! I'm only laghing because of the stupidity of myslef. Everything is running alright now. Thanks for your help.

Glad to hear you got it working. Would not mind hearing how you got it going :). Either way good job and enjoy.

Well, when i thought i was downloading the new drivers, they didnt install correctly. (Much agrivation in the middle). Then i find out that regseeker is deleting some drivers so thats why it wasnt working (my whole pc that is for games). And now i dont want to try to load in the new drivers because i'm afraid i'll mess up my pc again. So CoH is glitchy, doesnt freeze as much but doesnt go black. I'm still annoyed though. Hey blue, if you could tell me exactly what to do to download the new drivers, that would be great. I know where to get the new drivers, i just think you have to delete something which I'm not positive on.
Thanks much.

You remove your video drivers through add/remove programs in control panel. After you do that you reboot your PC and you'd launch the driver install exe that you download from the web. It really is as easy as that :).

Some people like to remove what may be left behind after removing drivers using software like "Driver Cleaner" http://www.drivercleaner.net/professional.php. you would run this app between removal and installation of the new drivers.

what video card do you have? Nvidia or ATi?

ati.
and i would unistall catalyst control center as well or is that evrything. Because i know you have an option to download that. I'm just a bit apprehensive cuz when i did that earlier this wek it didnt work.

On ATi's website https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=293 there is "Catalyst Control Center Package" (34.6mb in size), this is what you'd download.

In Control panel "Add or Remove Programs" there is "ATi software Uninstall Utility" and "ATi Catalyst Control Centre"... "ATi Catalyst Control centre" is what you'd Uninstall. After you Uninstall that you'd need to reboot. after your computer reboots you'll be prompted to install drivers by windows, Close that. run driver cleaner http://www.drivercleaner.net/professional.php to clean what is left of your drivers. After cleaning Run the downloaded "Catalyst Control Center Package" you downloaded from ATi. Your drivers will be up to date after this.

Blue, thanks for all your help, but my pc is messed up and it still doesn't want to work. I'm going to reformat this weekend, so what is wrong with my pc should be fixed. The last time I reformated a month or less than that ago, I had some defected parts that I didn't know about until later. So I had to send the parts back and so on. So the installation of windows must have been messed up, because it's more than CoH that is being a nuisance.
Thanks much
