coincidence or dead mobo?

Yesterday my Saitek eclipse keyboard dies, its usb and should light up but the lights went out and the keyboards not responsive. Now im using the old dell ps/2 keyboard i had.

Today my wireless mouse is giving me grief, acting like it would if the batteries have died but i've replaced them, tried three different new sets of batteries with the same results.

Wondering if it might be a problem with the USB ports instead, cant test on another machine at the moment unfortunately.

Rather not replace the mobo unless necessary....

any thoughts?
 
Try reinstalling the drivers for your mobo... if that doesn't work, then I don't think it's the mobo's problem... I'm pretty sure the front and rear USB are controlled by different chips, and it would be unlikely for both to go out at the same time.

You sure the keyboard and mouse is dead?
Dunno if you have a DVM to had but if ya do you could try using that to see if the USB ports are putting out the right voltage (4.75-5.25v).

Pin one is 5+ VDC and pin 4 will be ground.

It thats ok could be the amperage,

USB power usage:

Bus-powered hubs: Draw Max 100 mA at power up and 500 mA normally.
Self-powered hubs: Draw Max 100 mA, must supply 500 mA to each port.
Low power, bus-powered functions: Draw Max 100 mA.
High power, bus-powered functions: Self-powered hubs: Draw Max 100 mA, must supply 500 mA to each port.
Self-powered functions: Draw Max 100 mA.
Suspended device: Max 0.5 mA

try going into device manager> universal serial bus contoller>
then go to properties in each of the usb root hubs and click power management and uncheck.. allow computer to turn off this device to save power, its worth a try...
 
will have a look at the various suggestions, just find it rather strange that both keyboard and mouse start playing up at the same time. Both run via seperate usb ports so its not like i hve one receiver for both items.

I have an MX revolution arriving on monday so will see if that solves the problem.
