Cold Cathode Question

If I put a cold cathode light into a fan controller would it be able to be dimmed? Or would it EXPLODE?

That's a good question...I have a cathode and a fan controller...I might try that tonight and report back. That would be cool if it works.

I wouldnt try it, because namely the fact that if you read the ballast for a full size flourescent bulb, it says something along the lines of "Do not use with dimmer control", youd more than likely burn out the ballast than get it to dim.

I'd say it wouldnt work and it's not even worth trying

I had a standard lamp on a dimmer knob and installed a CFL bulb, even at the "maximum" setting on the dimmer, the CFL made a weird noise and didnt output steady light, it flickered, likely same principle for a 12V CCFL tube

Your a smart guy...I would just plug it in and try. If it works cool, if it does not work...I order a new one.

Listen to bomberboysk...yourself and I should not try this.

Putting a fluorescent bulb on a dimmer just makes it buzz, it doesn't blow anything up. What the real problem with hooking it up to a fan controller is, IMO, overloading controller.

Ok so I guess if I want to turn it off at night i should just hook it up to a on off switch.

Well I am putting a window in my computer and the light is only 5 dollars and I was under my budget there were no upgrades I could have made to my build for 5 dollars so I bought the light.
EDIT:Or were you just saying a florescent light would look stupid?

Just do what I did and get the Logisys Sound Activated CCFLs. They work real nice, and they have a switch that can turn them ON - OFF - Sound Activated
