I came up with a list of 4 major components that I'd like in my dorm. I might be a bit crazy, but this is what I came up with. Feel free to give your opinion on anything. I'm not buying it right now, but in August, I'm going to start looking around at the latest stuff.
Phone:
I've got TMobile and Motorola v600 now. The headset has been way too low for a long time so I cant even hear the other person talking if there's background noise on my side. Looking for something new. Could combine the PDA. The iPhone looks like the PERFECT example of what I'm looking for.
PDA:
Looking for a Windows based PDA with space for a memory card for music. I'm mainly using it on the campus for a datebook and internet and MP3 player for travel. I'm big on organization so I'd like to set everything up well. Integrated wireless B/G would be nice.
Laptop:
Heres where it gets complicated. I was originally looking for a 14" widescreen laptop with a REALLY good video card. However, these don't exist. That's where the SFF PC came into play. I didn't want to bring a huge tower down to college so something small would be the best bet. I started looking into a nice portable laptop I could take to class and take notes on and go online and take everywhere. A video card other than integrated would be nice, preferable a GeForce Go card. I found THIS and was pretty excited. 13.3 widescreen so it's small and good for movies on the go, 2GB RAM (this can be 1GB), 160GB HD (storage of pictures that I have), and the Go 7400 video. Looks absolutely perfect for what I'm looking for. Its a little expensive, but it IS for college...so what isn't. I'd take a 120GB HD and 1GB of RAM though to get the price down a bit. I need to check it out in the Sony Store in the local mall though. I'm wiping the hard drive and putting my own version of Windows XP Pro on it also...so I don't care about Vista.
SFF PC: With the laptop lighter on the video and not a ridiculous 17" screen, the SFF PC (with a 17" LCD) could be two things. I could take the existing Opteron 148 and 7800GT out of my existing computer and put them into that with 2GB of memory for only $420. OR I could go the other route and put in an Core 2 Duo at 2.4GHz, 2GB DDR2, and keep the 7800GT for $630. I don't know what to do about that one yet. I was looking at this Asus box for it. Here. I only need 1 drive and 1 HD (already have both). Not using a floppy.
Just throwing things out there.
Thanks!
