College Computer

I would get a laptop. I always use mine for lectures and stuff. Also i have a mic so i ca record the lectures on my laptop. I have 3 batteries, which are about $100 per battery, but it lasts me the whole day.

I disagree that 75% of students have a laptop... I just graduated and in class, there was 1 or 2 student with a laptop... I know a few who had some at home, but its certainly not 75%... I'm quite sure in other programs there are many more users...

As for a laptop, well I can't stand those... they are great for mobility, but that's about it for me... I couldn't have imagined myself doing university on a laptop... So there is also a matter of personnal preference, if it were me, I'd definitively go for a desktop.

As for Vista, well... I'm quite sure its not as bad as people say, at least that's what I read and with SP1 coming, it will fix a few things, won't quite make it perfect, but it works at least ok on a new desktop...

Here's what i thought about doing:
A: buy a Macbook since its $1,099 and its a really respectable laptop
Or
B: build a computer and buy a used Mac laptop for about $500 give or take. I really would only be using the laptop to either take notes (maybe), powerpoint, or go to a study group.
What of those seems more reasonable?

Well i would probably end up getting an older/used mac since they're reliable and pretty good computers and you can pic them up for a decent price. ( we just got my mom a used iBook G3 with 640mb of ram,30gb HDD,) for like $300 which is fine for her since she just needs it while she out to type stuff.

For me if i were to get a laptop it would most likely be a mac since, but for a desktop it would be a PC built by myself which i have done and know how to do no worries i would NEVER buy a prebuilt/major brand PC, been there done that and never again.

Yeah, idk about dell im not a fan. I was thinking a mid price computer (400-600) and a used Macbook G4 or something. I am pondering the idea of a desktop and a laptop. D you guys think a used mac would be better than a super low end PC laptop like one they have a best buy for about $450-$500?
