Color not printing on Lexmark Z715 printer

I have a Lexmark Z715 printer that I just changed the color ink cartidge on, its the color 20 cartridge. Anyways when I print something with color in it, it comes out real choppy and faded. Yellow barely prints at all, and blue comes out faded and with lines going through the text. Whats the chances that I bought a bad cartridge, and whats the chances that this printer has had it. Its only about 15 months old. When I print something black, it comes out flawless, but its a different cartridge.

I think the new one is getting worse. I printed the exact same thing with the old and new cartridge.
Red came out as a faded red with yellow lines through it on the new one, yellow came out real faded on the new one, and blue came out real faded with red lines going through it.

On the old one, red came out as semi faded red, yellow came out as nothing, and blue came out as a very faded red.

Thanks for any advice

I'd first try running a head clean and/or deep head clean. You may need to do so more than once for it to be effective, but it usually fixes these sorts of problems.

I agree with ceewi1, but working in a store where we sell a large amount of cartridges, there is a chance that the printhead has a manufacturing defect as well. Try the clean printhead utility, but if it continues to get worse, the merchant should be willing to do a direct swap for another #20 cartridge.
