Hi, i have a huge problem with my 3 month old pc

im guessing this is a problem related to the graphics card.
my problem is:

i turn the computer on and theres all these lines and dots, normally red on a dark background on the screen, when it gets to load windows, it gets a bsod saying something about how atimkdag.sys did something, it doesnt stay for long enough for me to read it. My pc will however start in safe mode.

ive tried a few things

reseating the card and ram, this worked for about a week.

my hardware :
Ati hd4850 with 1024 mb memory
intel core 2 quad q9400
4gb corsair 800mhz
asus p5ql pro

thanks in advance :)

Yeah, that's the graphics card for sure. Have you updated the drivers?

BOOT into Safe Mode, and un-install the drivers. Restart, BOOT into normal Windows and then install the latest ones from ATI's web-site. Have you OC'ed the card at all?

If that doesn't work, do you have another card you could test out in the computer? 'Cause if that works, you know the card is faulty and you should send it back to the people you bought it off.

Yeah i've tried the drivers twice now, but id otn think it could be that because graphics drivers dont boot up in the bios and the lines/dots or whatever are still there :(

and no the card runs at stock speeds.
and i dont have another pci-e card in the entire house :( all others are agp

thanks for the help all the same :)

If the artifacts are showing while it's in the BIOS, sorry to say that the card is more than likely borked.

If your computer is only 3 months old, it should still be in warrant, so just take it back to them, and show/tell them the problem. They should offer to replace the damaged card.
