hi guys im looking for some advice, i have a medion laptop 96640, when you start up you dont even get to bios and the screen shows coloured vertical lines you can hear the sound in the background, windows startup sound etc.

i tried connecting to an external display and get nothing at all, after some research online, it appears to either be the screen itself or the invertor.

does anyone know which one of these it is most likely to be.

update : i got the screen to work for a very brief period by just touching it gently with my hand, dont if that helps with diagnose the fault

thanks

Hmm. I was thinking it might have been the GPU (motherboard) itself. But it appears not. It can't hurt to pull apart the machine and re-assemble it, while checking all the connections. Plus it can be practice for when and if you need to replace the screen or inverter ;)

i have spent the day strippin the machine linkin, reseated all the cables and still the same result, when applying slight pressure to the inverter the display did came back and i got as far as vista password screen, now it displays nothing but the lines.

when i was browsing looking for replacements i found an lcd screen company that do a replacement screen that has no backlight inverter, do you think that would be suitable ?

i had thought it was the screen that was at fault, but the fact that none of the external display connections work is making me unsure if it could be a mainboard fault, tried both vga and hdmi. any ideas anyone
